In the Press: Owner of Dilling Heating & Cooling Featured in CBS News

At Dilling Heating & Cooling, everything we do is for the benefit of our community. Our HVAC and plumbing company was built on the foundations of trust, value, and unmatched service back in 1955 — and even to this day, we use these guiding principles to set the standard for the service we provide.

One way we serve our community is by offering advice on all the preventative measures that homeowners can take to avoid a heating and plumbing nightmare as winter weather approaches. Ed Kijewski, the proud owner of Dilling Heating & Cooling, was recently interviewed by CBS about the best ways to protect your home in the winter. Check out his tips and tricks below!

Keep Your Heater in Good Shape

“The number one most important thing, you got to make sure your heating and air conditioning works,” Kijewski said. “Want to make sure you stay warm when it’s cold outside.”

You don’t want to find out how long you can go with a busted heater. To keep your furnace in good shape, be sure to change out the filter every 30-90 days.

Those who suffer from allergies, live with pets, or find a lot of dust accumulating in their homes should opt to replace the filter more often.

Winterize Your Plumbing

“The biggest thing is making sure that any pipes that are exposed, outside, insulated, everything’s closed off,” Kijewski said, “because if you don’t have that done, that’s where it’s gonna freeze and the water is gonna freeze back into the pipes.”

We’re no strangers to winter weather here in Bensalem, PA, and the surrounding areas. And once the temperatures drop below freezing, you need to take extra precautions to keep your outdoor or exposed pipes safe.

Extra insulation is the best form of protection you can offer your plumbing system in the winter. One easy way to achieve this is with heat tape. Heat tape is inexpensive, easy to DIY, and can be bought at your local hardware store.

If, for some reason, you can’t insulate your pipes, then let a little bit of cold water drip from the faucet to prevent the pipes from freezing on those extra chilly nights.

Of course, Dilling Heating & Cooling is available 24/7 for plumbing emergencies, including frozen pipes.
